Privacy Policy

Good News Digest is designed to be useful without asking who you are. You can read, save and share stories without creating an account. We do not sell personal data, show personalised advertising or use advertising trackers.

What this policy covers

This policy explains how Good News Digest handles information when you use our Android or iOS app, visit goodnewsdigest.app, or contact us. Good News Digest is the app and service identified by this policy.

Information handled by the app

News requests

The app connects securely to our content service to retrieve published digests, stories and images. As with most internet services, these requests necessarily include technical information such as your IP address, request time, requested URL, and basic device or network information. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes this information to deliver content, prevent abuse, maintain security and diagnose service errors. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.

Information stored on your device

The app stores a cache of published content, the identifiers of stories you have read, and, when you save a story, its identifier, web address, headline and image reference. This information stays in the app's private storage and is not uploaded to a Good News Digest user account. Saved-story details can be removed by unsaving those stories; all locally stored information can be removed by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it.

On Android, saved-story information and reading history may be included in Android's cloud backup or device-transfer features if you have enabled them. Google handles that backup under your device and Google Account settings. Cached digest content is not included in our Android backup configuration.

Sharing and external links

When you choose Share, the app gives a story title and public link to the sharing app you select. When you open a source link, your browser or the destination website will handle the request under its own privacy policy. Good News Digest does not receive the contents of what you share.

Supporter subscriptions

If you choose a supporter subscription, the purchase will be processed by the relevant app store and managed for us by RevenueCat. RevenueCat will process purchase and subscription status, app-store receipts or purchase tokens, basic technical information, and a random anonymous identifier generated by its SDK. We will not provide RevenueCat with your name, email address or a Good News Digest account ID, because the app does not have user accounts. The anonymous identifier is used only to validate purchases and provide supporter access.

Website information

The website does not provide user accounts and does not use advertising or analytics SDKs. Cloudflare processes the same kinds of request and security information described above when serving the website. The website uses the Google Fonts service for its type; your browser therefore requests font files from Google, which receives your IP address and browser request information. Google states that the Fonts API does not send cookies or use this data to create end-user profiles or for advertising.

Information you send us

If you email us, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message. We use it to respond, investigate problems and keep an appropriate support record. Please do not send sensitive personal information that is not needed for your request.

How information is used and shared

We use information only as needed to:

• deliver the app, website and requested content;
• protect the service, prevent abuse and fix technical problems;
• manage supporter purchases and subscription access;
• respond to support and privacy enquiries; and
• comply with applicable legal obligations.

We share information only with service providers needed for those purposes, including Cloudflare, Google Fonts, RevenueCat and the applicable app store. They may process data in countries outside your own and use contractual or other recognised safeguards where required. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect the rights, safety and security of users or the service.

Security, retention and deletion

Connections between the app, website and our services use HTTPS encryption. We limit access to service systems and use providers that maintain technical and organisational safeguards. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Device data remains until you remove it as described above. Service and security logs are retained only for as long as reasonably needed for delivery, security and diagnosis, subject to our providers' retention practices. Support correspondence is retained while needed to resolve the enquiry and maintain necessary records. Subscription records are retained while needed to provide and restore purchases and to meet legal, accounting and fraud-prevention requirements.

The app has no Good News Digest account to delete. For questions or requests concerning information held by us or our processors, contact us using the address below. We may need limited information to locate and verify the relevant record.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, or to receive a portable copy. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. UK residents can contact the Information Commissioner's Office. You can exercise applicable rights by contacting us.

Children

Good News Digest is a general-audience news service and is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us, please contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app, our providers or legal requirements change. We will publish the revised policy here and change the date at the top. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or website where appropriate.
