Abhishek Sharma hits India’s fastest men’s T20 international century
Abhishek Sharma reached 100 runs in just 30 balls, the fastest century by an Indian in men’s Twenty20 international cricket, as India completed a 3-0 series win over Afghanistan in New Delhi. He cut five balls from Rohit Sharma’s previous national record, set against Sri Lanka in 2017.
Sharma went on to score 108 from 34 balls in the final match. Sanju Samson added 50, helping India finish with 221 runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravi Bishnoi then took three wickets each as India secured a 127-run victory.
Behind Sharma’s rapid scoring was a carefully considered approach. He said his preparation focuses on the bowlers he expects to face and how to make the most of the early stages of a match. He also credited the captain and coaches for supporting his attacking style, stressing the importance of staying united through setbacks.
The series ended with a gesture of sporting respect. Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran helped carry the trophy to the Indian team, then joined the players for their photograph. Zadran said his side needed more opportunities against leading teams to improve, while India captain Shreyas Iyer praised Afghanistan’s effort.
