Bangladesh Claim First Test Victory in Australia With Nine-Wicket Win
Bangladesh secured their first Test victory in Australia, completing a commanding nine-wicket win in Darwin and taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
The visitors controlled the match from the opening innings. Hasan Mahmud took a career-best 6-55 as Australia were dismissed for 198, despite Steve Smith’s 71. Bangladesh then amassed 426. Tanzid Hasan made 101—his maiden Test century, achieved in only his second match—and became the first Bangladesh batter to reach three figures in a Test in Australia. Najmul Hossain Shanto added 84 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz 65, creating a decisive 228-run advantage.
Australia responded with 284, led by Cameron Green’s 104, but Mehidy’s 5-56 and three more wickets from Hasan kept the target to 57. Bangladesh reached 57-1, with Mominul Haque unbeaten on 30 and Shadman Islam on 25.
The result came in Bangladesh’s third Test on Australian soil and their first there in 23 years. It was also their second Test win over Australia overall, following victory in Dhaka in 2017.
