Bangladesh Claim Historic First Test Victory in Australia

Bangladesh secured their first Test victory on Australian soil, defeating the hosts by nine wickets in Darwin and taking a 1–0 lead in the two-match series. It was also only Bangladesh’s second Test win over Australia, following their 20-run triumph in Mirpur in 2017.

The visitors controlled the match after dismissing Australia for 198 in the first innings. Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud took six wickets, before Bangladesh amassed 426 for a commanding 228-run advantage. Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored 101, becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to make a Test century in Australia, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto added 84 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed 65.

Australia improved to 284 in its second innings, led by Cameron Green’s 104, but Mehidy’s five wickets and another three from Hasan limited the recovery. Hasan finished with nine wickets across the match.

Set just 57 to win, Bangladesh reached the target in 14.2 overs with one wicket lost, completing a landmark result and carrying the series lead into the second Test in Mackay.
