Brazil’s youth vaccination drive delivers more than 8 million doses
Brazil’s 2026 National Multivaccination Campaign administered more than 8 million vaccine doses during a month-long push to bring children and adolescents up to date. The initiative, run by the Health Ministry with state and municipal authorities from 3 August to 1 September, made its strongest single-day showing on 22 August, when more than 1 million doses were given.
Rather than giving every participant the same set of injections, health workers checked each person’s vaccination record and offered only the doses needed to begin, complete or update the recommended schedule. The campaign covered protection against illnesses including measles, polio, hepatitis, influenza, Covid-19, yellow fever, HPV and dengue. It also marked the first time the 20-valent pneumococcal vaccine was offered in a national multivaccination campaign, following its addition to Brazil’s national schedule earlier in 2026.
Regional results show the effort’s reach. Paraná administered more than 400,000 doses to the target group, including over 112,000 during its main mobilization days. Rio de Janeiro reported 167,000 doses and extended its local campaign until 12 September. About 51% of the more than 107,000 vaccination records checked there were already current.
The national campaign’s close does not end access. Vaccines on Brazil’s National Vaccination Calendar remain available throughout the year through the public health system and vaccination sites run by states and municipalities.
