Johor Darul Ta’zim sets men’s top-flight unbeaten record at 109 matches

Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’zim has extended its unbeaten league run to a world-record 109 matches, surpassing a mark that had stood for more than three decades.

The defending Malaysian champions reached the milestone with a 3-0 victory over Kuching City in the 2026/27 Super League season opener at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium. Marcos Guilherme scored after 11 minutes, before Oscar Arribas and Shahab Zahedi added second-half goals.

The result took JDT beyond the 108-match unbeaten run achieved by Ivory Coast’s ASEC Mimosas between 1989 and 1994. The Malaysian side has not lost a league fixture since April 2021 and completed each of the past four Super League campaigns without defeat.

That consistency has accompanied an extraordinary period of domestic success. JDT entered the new season as 12-time defending champions and is pursuing a 13th consecutive league title. In each of the previous three campaigns, the team dropped points in only one league match.

The record reflects more than a single dominant season. It represents sustained performance across changing opponents, years of pressure and more than a hundred occasions on which defeat was avoided. JDT now has the opportunity to extend the benchmark further as its latest title defence continues.
