Kohli becomes fastest to 15,000 one-day international runs

Virat Kohli has become the fastest batter to reach 15,000 runs in one-day international cricket, achieving the milestone in 303 innings. The 37-year-old scored 139 runs without being dismissed as India beat West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram.

Only Sachin Tendulkar had previously reached that career total in the format. But Kohli’s latest performance was also about change: he said he has been working on a more aggressive approach to scoring, even after years of success.

His 139 came from just 88 balls, helping India reach its target of 296. Captain Shubman Gill contributed 110 runs. For Kohli, it was a fourth century, meaning at least 100 runs in one innings, in his past 11 innings in the format.

Kohli said the challenge of developing another version of his game had been exciting. He also linked the freedom he feels while batting to physical preparation: staying fit, he said, helps him picture how he wants to play and then put that plan into practice.

Gill said India trusted Kohli to choose his own approach, given his record of winning matches for the team. As India begins preparing for the 2027 World Cup, Kohli is contributing both experience and a willingness to keep adapting.
