Teen’s calm emergency call helps save his father after a stroke in Egypt

A 13-year-old boy’s calm emergency call helped his father receive rapid treatment after the man suffered a stroke while driving a freight vehicle on Egypt’s Eastern Desert Road in Beni Suef. After the vehicle stopped at the roadside, the boy called the Egyptian Ambulance Authority on 123, although he could not describe their exact location.

A call handler stayed on the phone, reassured the boy and helped responders find them as the nearest ambulance searched the route. The crew reportedly arrived within six minutes, provided first aid under suspected-stroke procedures and took the father to Beni Suef University Hospital during the crucial first hour. He was admitted to intensive care. Hospital officials said the following day that his condition had improved markedly after urgent treatment, with medical monitoring continuing.

The rescue will now help others prepare for emergencies. The ambulance authority said it would incorporate the boy’s call into its training and its “Young Paramedic” project, which teaches schoolchildren basic first aid and how to request emergency assistance. The authority also honored the call handler and ambulance crew for their response and arranged an ambulance to take the father home to Cairo once he has recovered and is discharged.
