West Indies complete their biggest Twenty20 international chase
West Indies completed their highest successful run chase in Twenty20 international cricket, beating India in Ranchi as captain Shai Hope scored 102 runs from just 45 balls without being dismissed. They passed a target of 250 with nine balls to spare, drawing the series level at 1-1.
India had set a demanding challenge, scoring 249 runs, led by Sanju Samson’s 82 from 41 balls. The pursuit then began badly for West Indies: fast bowler Mayank Yadav dismissed two batters with consecutive deliveries, leaving them with just five runs and two players out.
Hope and Sherfane Rutherford changed the course of the match by adding 120 runs together from 54 balls. Rutherford scored 84 from 37 before he was dismissed, while Romario Shepherd sustained the momentum with 34 from 13, also finishing unbeaten.
Hope supplied the finish with two six-run hits off Axar Patel in the closing stages. The second took him past 100 and secured victory, with West Indies reaching 252 for the loss of four wickets. His second international Twenty20 hundred had helped turn a faltering start into a record-breaking team performance.
