Yemen Demining Teams Remove 7,444 Explosive Hazards in Two Weeks

Demining teams in Yemen removed 7,444 explosive remnants of war during the first 14 days of August 2026, while clearing 646,550 square metres of contaminated land, according to figures released by the Masam project. The work reduced immediate dangers in areas being prepared for residents to return and resume everyday activities more safely.

The total comprised 7,226 items of unexploded ordnance, 137 anti-tank mines, 35 anti-personnel mines and 46 explosive devices. During the second week alone, teams recovered 2,157 hazards: 2,075 unexploded munitions, 68 anti-tank mines, 11 anti-personnel mines and three explosive devices.

The Saudi-funded project said its operations, which began in late June 2018, had removed 585,670 mines, unexploded munitions and explosive devices by August 14, 2026. It also reported clearing 84,378,381 square metres of land over that period. In Midi district, Hajjah governorate, teams have removed 12,766 hazards and cleared 4,462,365 square metres since beginning work there.
